Project Description

Severe epidemics of stripe rust may cause up to 50% yield losses. Since 2000, stripe rust has been observed every year with serious epidemics reported in 2005, 2006, 2011 and 2014 in some parts of Western Canada. Genetic resistance is the most effective and environment friendly strategy to control stripe rust. This project is expected to improve the understanding of the genetics of stripe rust resistance in Western Canada and facilitate development of stripe rust resistant wheat cultivars.
